How would you explain specifically what you do as a Social Media Specialist?
I help manage businesses’ social media properties. By “manage”, I mean I make sure to publish helpful, valuable posts for the business’ target audience.
Other than that, I also track the progress these properties make while making sure we reach established goals.
What is your primary marketing goal when it comes to delivering results?
That should depend on the business owner, really. It’s understandable that most businesses would focus on bottom-line; lead generation.
But sometimes, business owners want to just get their brand out there (brand awareness) or have a better relationship with their customers to keep them (customer retention and reputation management). It really depends on what they want to happen.
On a personal level, I just want my clients smiling because of the amount of opportunities I’ve helped create for them.
I’d also want them to know how and why we do the things we do with social media marketing. It’s what I call my crusade.
Which new skills are most important for Social Media Specialists to learn in the next six months?
Basic writing technique, data analysis and good ol’ fashioned research.
What do you find most rewarding about Social Media Specialist?
Being able to help clients reach their point B.
How do you stay updated with the latest Social Media Specialist industry news?
There’s Social media examiner, Social media today, Mashable, Avinash Kausik’s blog among other websites.
What are some of the top tools and apps in your Social Media Specialist stack?
Hootsuite, Canva and Tweetreach, Facebook’s Page app for phones, and Instagram’s Layout. Those are a few.
How is your typical work day structured?
I run or bike in the morning, take a shower, turn my computer on and focus on what needs to be done. Come 5PM, I turn off the computer and start swim training come 6PM.
I make it a point that I follow this schedule as strictly as I can. But I am flexible and when there are times that I have to go overtime, I oblige.

What advice would you share with other Social Media Specialist’s who want to become more productive?
Close all unnecessary tabs (YouTube, etc). Focus on the game and play.
Among the Social Media Algorithm updates what is the most challenging one that you’ve encountered?
Facebook’s wretched Newsfeed algorithm. Sadly, it’s starting to be a thing for other social media platforms like Instagram.
But I believe that as long as you provide value and help your target audience, they’ll keep you in their minds and hearts (and Favorites sections) always.
Are there any particular Social Media Specialist trends on the horizon that really excite you?
It doesn’t necessarily excite me in the strictest sense, but Facebook’s wretched Newsfeed algorithm challenge me.
It’s starting to be a thing for other social media platforms like Instagram and it’ll be nice to know how other social media specialists like me can rise above it outside of paying for these placements.
